As longtime Vancouver residents, we wished we didn't have to drive to Portland to find the quality, unique toys we wanted to give our grandchildren. Thinking other families might be doing the same thing, we decided to fill the gap for a specialty toy store in Vancouver.
With backgrounds in journalism and public information, running a retail business was all new. But after taking classes, picking the brains of experienced specialty toy retailers, visiting more than 30 toy stores, and celebrating with a store blessing, we opened our doors March 1, 2006. Along the way just the right people stepped in at just the right time to help make Kazoodles a reality.
Along the way we opened a second store on the east side of Vancouver, then closed the original and consolidated everything into one bright and cheery store. Again, we had wonderful help from people whose talents brought the new store to reality.
Every day we are thanked for bringing Kazoodles to Vancouver. But it's the owners and staff at Kazoodles who thank you, our customers, for bringing us the joy of knowing you and your children and for supporting locally-owned, independent business in our community.
We joined the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) and within two months of opening Kazoodles, became editors of the organization's national magazine. That has been a tremendous learning experience. Mary spent four years on ASTRA's board, in the thick of important issues involved in bringing you the best, safest developmental toys.
Thank you for your support,
